old mission peninsula
Old Mission Peninsula Loop (41 miles, with many optional shorter distances (13, 23, 30)
The most popular recreational ride in Michigan's northwest Lower Peninsula, best ridden counterclockwise. Roads going north and south along the length of the Old Mission Peninsula are mostly flat. The roads going east and west across the peninsula from shore to shore are mostly hilly. Restaurants are located in Mapleton, on M-37 at Eimen Road and in the Bowers Harbor area.
The general store in Old Mission is a must see. Public restrooms are located at the lighthouse and park at the tip of the peninsula. Parking is available in the lot of Traverse City Central High School on Eastern Avenue, one block east of Highway M-37, near the southwest corner of this loop ride.
Glen Lake Loop (19 miles)
Best ridden counter-clockwise. This 19 mile ride is around both Big Glen and Little Glen lakes. Glen Arbor is a good lunch stop with many restaurants and shops, but lots of traffic and limited auto parking. Shorter option omits the trip around Little Glen: Ride south on M-22 out of Glen Arbor, crossing the bridge over the narrows between the two lakes. Rejoin the larger loop at CR 616. There is one major climb up to Inspiration Point on CR 616 along the south end of Big Glen. Otherwise the terrain is rolling and very scenic. Parking at the Dune Climb and at Glen Haven, both off M-109. or at Myles Kimmerly Park, corner of CR 669 and 616. Glen Lake School on CR 616 when school is out.
maple city | lime lake
Maple City (25 miles)
Ride counter-clockwise around Lime and Little Traverse lakes. Hilly and little traffic. Little town of Cedar and still-smaller town of Maple City are within a half-mile of the route on CR 616. Restaurants, grocery store and some parking in both towns. Good connecting routes to Glen Lake Tour. Parking and restrooms at Myles Kimmerly Park at 616 and 669. Also at township park on Little Traverse Lake.
north lake leelanau
North Lake Leelanau (15 Miles)
North Lake Leelanau is a favorite. Ride this nearly flat route clockwise around the upper lake. Some views and beaches. Leland is a popular place to eat and shop. Visit quaint and historic Fishtown and the marina and beach on Lake Michigan. Village of Lake Leelanau also has restaurants and a grocery store. Traffic can be heavy on M-22 where the shoulder is narrow, and also on M-204 where the shoulder is wider. Park either in Lake Leelanau or Leland.
