Summer Events Highlight the CCCC Calendar

Did you know that early registration for the Ride Around Torch (RAT) and the Leelanau Harvest Tour (LHT) is open now, and if you register early, there’s a nice discount!  Rates start at $35 per event, and increase by $5 as we hit the 2-month and 1-month “prior-to-the-event” dates.

Scheduled for Sunday, July 21, the RAT  is one of the signature features on the CCCC schedule, simply because the roads around Torch Lake are spectacular, the scenery memorable, and the entire experience is expertly managed by the club.  Choose a variety of routes and distances from 26 miles to the big daddy 100 mile loop, and enjoy a recreational, supported tour with many great stops and villages along the way.  It’s a hilly route, but there’s no stopwatch in sight, so enjoy the ride at any pace you choose.  The route hugs the shores of crystal clear Torch Lake, so there are plenty of spots to swim or cool down and gather with your friends.  Fully supported with great food stops along the way, the club knows how to make your day enjoyable.  At the finish in Elk Rapids, enjoy an incredible picnic right down by Grand Traverse Bay.

Saturday, September 15 might be just a little past the traditional summer season, but the weather is usually stellar for a wonderful scenic tour of the backroads of Leelanau County.  Depart from Suttons Bay High School in one of several waves of riders completing either a 20, 40, 65, or 100 mile loop.  The routes are carefully designed and marked for any rider, including some time on the Leelanau Trail for the novices.  You’ll wind past orchards, vineyards, dunes and plenty of emerging fall colors on your way to healthy food and rest stops along the way.  Your day of riding finishes with a huge feast back in Suttons Bay, making this the premiere cycling event in Leelanau County every year.

All of the proceeds of these events support the League of Michigan Bicyclist programs as wells the CCCC’s Grant Program, which gives back to local trail building, infrastructure, safety programs, and cycling advocacy in our area.  Well done CCCC!
